Change for Smiles

In keeping with the GFWC Florida State President’s Project "Operation Smile," we will have the opportunity to CHANGE THE LIVES OF CHILDREN throughout the world! Starting in October, Kim will have available for each member a “Smile Can.”  This “Can” will hold your spare change and other money. The “Smile Can” will be brought back each month to the General Membership meeting. Other options...just put a write a check to SSWC & earmark it for "Opereation Smile" OR stuff you can full of folding money!!!  Our Club’s goals is to pay for 5 surgeries at $240 each or a total of $1,200.  We can do this!!!

Remember to Stock Up, Ladies!!!

Southside Woman’s Club Clubhouse

Jacksonville, Florida

In 1912 , 16 members of the South Jacksonville Book Club launched a
woman’s club and attended the Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs Convention. November 23, 1913 with a membership of 57 the new club began.  Dues were $3.00 a year and $.25 for guests.  Our first clubhouse was built in 1916 & in 1918 our clubhouse was requisitioned for the war effort. In 1921 we inaugurated “The Roaring Twenties” by building a new clubhouse.  Amid hurricanes that rocked Florida, our clubhouse stayed strong during the 1940’s and in 1955 we had to move as a new Expressway forced us to sell the clubhouse.  Highlights of our years together included the organizing of a Ladies Auxiliary for Baptist Hospital, winning the District IV silver try for achievement in the Fine Arts Festival, 1st place in the state on the FFWC Honor Points Award.   Also, noteworthy 1st place as the Outstanding Charitable Organization. We proudly celebrated our 100th Birthday in 2013. With heavy hearts & facing increasing maintenance costs in 2015 a decision was made to sell our clubhouse. Currently the Club meets at a local hotel and our motto “Women Inspiring Community Spirit
is stronger than ever!  The history of our great country and this long-established Southside Womans Club go hand & hand, but the value added to the Jacksonville, Florida community is and continues to be priceless. While our clubhouse was a building, our true value as an organization is that we are home no matter where we meet!

Keep us, O God, from pettiness; let us be large in thought, in word, in deed.

Let us be done with fault finding and leave off self-seeking.

May we put away all pretenses and meet each other face to face- without self-pity and without prejudice.

May we never be hasty in judgment and always generous.

Let us take time for all things; make us grow calm, serene, and gentle.

Grant that we may realize that it is the little things that create differences; that in the big things of life we are at one.

And may we strive to touch and to know the great common human heart of us all.

And, O Lord God, let us forget not, to be kind.

The first and foremost goal of our non-profit organization is to make a difference in as many people's lives as possible. We strive to improve the living conditions for those who need the help, who can't do it themselves.

Have you ever thought about how much you could change things just by volunteering?
